Where to legally buy 4K movies and store them on a local 'server'

It seems they have been around for a very long time, and yet there is virtually zero "chatter" about them on the internet. Maybe they require every customer to sign an NDA!?!?! :p;)

    Kaleidescape vs. DIY (RIPing)

This isn't strictly true, is it, assuming you have downloaded a copy of every movie that you purchased to your Kscape box? I dunno that it does, but even if the the Kscape box needed to "phone home" periodically to validate licenses, I would expect that if they went under that somehow a way to...

    Kaleidescape vs. DIY (RIPing)

Perhaps, but it's certainly the case that the "money value of time" is very different for each and every one of them. Some for example are retired, have loads of time for hobbies, and find the hours spent to be enjoyable/fun/challenging/worthwhile or otherwise get a lot of personal satisfaction...

Pre-owned systems; what happens to the MOVIES?

As the OP, I was completely happy with this "official" answer: But now as I've learned more about Digital, and having redeemed a few packaged codes with BDs to see what that's about, it clarifies for me the MA interest here. If one has rights to a movie registered with MA, it would be very nice...

How much bandwidth used per month?

Thanks guys, very helpful info. Sounds like getting started will be the hard part--I will want to [try to] limit my downloads to those I will actually watch, and resist the urge to load-up the new toy "just" to play with the interface. :)

How much bandwidth used per month?

We have a 1TB upper limit on our monthly Internet upload/download usage and I'm wondering if that's any sort of concern for a K-scape potential customer as me. I have only just begun monitoring our "normal" usage, and so far this month we've used only about 24GB of our 1,000GB ceiling, so it...

    Fitting movies to 2.35 screen

Ha! Yeah I remember that one, and though I haven't looked at it recently (on Blu-ray) I seem to recall that I zoomed it to 2.35 and then electronically Masked-off the top & bottom so those IMAX scenes would not spill off the screen. I think my new PJ might be able to save Masking settings, in...

    Fitting movies to 2.35 screen

Thanks for the feedback Mike, it is appreciated. It seems all y'all have this stuff figured-out; I look forward to getting a Strato but probably not until fall season at this point. In the meantime I zoom 2.35 Blu-rays and suffer for things like trailers/ads and Menu selections that are off my...

Good answer, and very clear. Thank you John!

Pre-owned systems; what happens to the MOVIES?

Sure, though I wonder what, if anything, K-scape might do about it. I doubt that they would recognize-and-delete, or fail to play, that content. Clearly if the new owner can play it and then somehow deletes it, they'd need to re-buy from K. I suppose there is a Ts&Cs doc somewhere that might...

Pre-owned systems; what happens to the MOVIES?

We have a Marketplace section, and there are plenty of K-things for sale elsewhere, but I can't seem to find any discussions about what happens to the programs that might be on the hard drives of these systems. I expect that people with disc vaults will empty them of discs before sale, but what...

    Fitting movies to 2.35 screen

Thank you John, I had started to read the Cinemascape doc and stopped when it only mentioned older players, but now I see Strato supports Cscape as well. The Strato Installation Guide is helpful, though it tantalizingly shows a "Select Video Behavior" header in a screenshot that then is not...

    Fitting movies to 2.35 screen

First post (deep breath): I'm a long-time disc user weary of messing with them, so am thinking that my HT future includes a Strato S, where movie watching appears to get A LOT easier (push a button, movie plays, no "trailers" or menus or etc). Presently my projected images (Sony 4K VPL-VW395ES)...
