US BR & 4K Releases for March & April 2021

Almost !
After checking randomly it looks like the largest movie file is the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition), close to 179GB ! Next one seems to be the Extended Edition of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, almost 140GB
OK. I cheated and ran some database queries rather than randomly sampling store content.

The HDR version of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition) is a 178.6 GB download, true. However, that is split across two different files; the theatrical version and the extended edition. Each one of those downloads weighs in at a "paltry" 90(ish) GB.

The true winner is actually the HDR version of American Gangster which is a single 178.5 GB download.

Also joining the leaderboard over morning coffee ...
"American Gangster" 4K HDR at 178.5 GB
"The Last Jedi" Blu-ray Quality Download at 172.9GB.

Submits message on fun thread. One minute later gets email notification of a reply to the same thread

Me: "Didn't I just say that!?" :)

BTW, The Last Jedi is also a poseur as the file for just the movie is only about 80 GB. The rest is the supplement material which is downloaded as a separate file and thus could be skipped.

And (as I run further queries), if we're going to open up the contest to allow entries that spread the download across multiple files, then the winner is Blue Planet II (HDR) at 193.2 GB.

I have not seen American Gangster (although I love Denzel movies, and it's directed by Ridley Scott 🤷‍♀️). The run-time is 2 hr 57 min so no wonder the file is so large. It is available to rent, may have to check it out this weekend🍿

Thanks Kostas - but, disppointingly, yet aother NBCUniversal title, missing immersive audio - in relation to it's disc counterpart (DTS:X). I really hoped they had nailed this issue, but sadly appears not.

Derek I agree, it was exactly one year ago that Cheena announced:

"We are thankful to the NBCUniversal team for their support so that we can now provide you these advanced codecs for their new release titles. As for the updates on other NBCUniversal 4K HDR titles already available from Kaleidescape, we expect to process those as soon as we receive the additional files from NBCUniversal. COVID-19 disruptions make it difficult for us to set any expectations at this time."

While with Fox we are almost done, with Universal the issue is only partially solved. To be fair we are consistently getting immersive audio for all new Universal releases, partially only for resolution upgrades(Back to the Future, Jaws, Spartacus) and we "only" got a couple of older titles updated(1917, Hobbs & Shaw).

Covid-19 disruptions could still be a valid reason as studio priorities may have shifted. @Luke any update yo can provide with regards to Universal will be highly appreciated!

Might be interested in seeing this just for the award-winning performance. But it is $35.00, so I'll wait a bit longer.
