Disc to Digital Price Reduction

Hey Everyone -

I have had several questions about pricing on the Middle-earth movies.

The root of these price differences: Different things are on sale at different times.

Currently we are running a promotion that offers special pricing specifically on disc-to-digital purchases.

Luke
Well, my issue is that many upgraded from disc to digital already to obtain the HD K versions. Assuming discs are no longer needed, we deleted the discs and removed from our system. Never thought I would need them again to upgrade to 4K! Didn’t feel like searching in storage for them to re-catalog for another upgrade. SJ

I'm going to guess the black friday/cyber Monday discount on these movies applied to the price as listed for that account.

Ie, regular price $25, BF discount $11, new price $14.

Temporary D2D price $15, BF discount $11, temp D2D price on black friday $4.

What I have learned from all this is even though I have the KScape HD version of a movie, if its a movie I would want to upgrade to 4k if this becomes available, I will hang on to that disc, even if in a box in my garage, in case I need it for a special discounted disc to digital promotion. On the Hobbit movies, I had the KScape HD versions thanks to the old Ultraviolet system, but I only had a digital discount of $15.99 on them. In went the disc, and I got the sale disc to digital of $4.50 or so! YEA!

Does seem particulary galling if D2D is cheaper than "Digital Offers" (where the title was bought) - guess I'll have to hold onto my disks just a wee bitty longer .

Steve - does cataloging a physical disc gives the same discount? Or does it have to be physically in the Alto?
In my case discs which are catalogued are showing discounts. SO don't need the physical disc.

Same on my system. The disc just need to be cataloged. The issue being that any movies I previously converted from Disc to Digital, I removed the physical disc which had been cataloged so the movie didn’t show up twice.

Now I’ll just leave any cataloged movies in the system, even the ones that have been converted to HD Digital already.

That way I will have access to both Digital Upgrade offers and Disc to Digital offers in the future.

Yes. But its possible the system could have a glitch once you upgrade from disc say to HD version, so perhaps best to hang onto the blu ray disc if you think you will want the 4k version in case that becomes available. Just in case. Murphy's Law!

This is important to report for Premier Owners especially with 3U.
If you catalog a BD it will show up as a BD Quality and/or BD Disc in the computer interface of Premier System (many times both).
Even though the disc is not physically not in the system.
If you delete the BD Disc - the disc to digital offer will go away from the store.
I cataloged - now at 1700 movies (half of my collection - slowly going through them all) and went back in and deleted BD Discs wherever I found them duplicate with BD Quality thinking these were redundant and I will save space - only to find that the Disc to Digital offers vanished.
Luckily everything I deleted was sitting in the trash folder and I recovered them .... phew..
So the added advantage of the premier 3U is that you can catalog your BD's and pack away the discs so as upgrades come and K makes them available D2D - they will just appear in the Store as such.
And the catalog library does not take any space in the 3U.

I think they just upgraded the special pricing to include digital offers in addition to disc to digital. I was seeing $15.99 for all of the LOTR and Hobbit movies, but now they’re $4.42.

Yup that is what I saw on the Goonies and a few others... more money spent and no space on the system!

Also, I just got an email indicating that this pricing is good through Jan 5.

Yep, I had already gone through and bought what I wanted, but I’ll have to go look through my offers again and see what else I can’t pass up.

Just to confirm in case anyone missed the email yesterday - our special offer for the end of the year as been expanded to include upgrade pricing starting this weekend.

Best,

Luke

LOL, we'll I spent a few hundred last night. Going to basically sweep my digital offers from ~100 titles down to 0 now. Well played, @Luke was hoping to see that happen in the promotion.

To bad I just paid the $15.99 for the LotR/Hobbit trilogies a few days ago...

I wish bond movies were reduced for a bundle price..
Agree. Honestly, I wish it applied for MGM, Disney and Fox (Fox is doing nice for HD matches, but not as much for 4K). Disney is a bit discounted but compared to the rest, not so much. I'd have A LOT more that I'd be upgrading/matching if they were doing the same deal as the other studios.

I wouldn't expect any major price reductions from Disney, their history in this regard tells us it's not in their DNA.......
