Default Terra and Strato rack ears- are they the same?

Can i use the rack ears from the Strato mount kit to mount a Terra? Are they identical?

They are not identical. The mount kit for a Strato will not work for a Terra.

It's not immediately obvious when looking at them, but Strato is slightly less than 2U tall, while Terra is the full 2U.

I already have a rack kit for the Strato- can I just use the rack ears for it without the surrounding metal bezel to rack mount the Terra or does that take up too much space by pushing the Terra up in to the next "U"?

Another words, if we are just talking about the rack ear mounts, not the surround bezel- are the rack ears for the Strato and Terra rack mount kits identical?

Yeah, I don't think it will fit because it tries to center the Strato vertically in the 2U opening, and if you did that with the Terra it'd be too high. I'll check with our mechanical engineer to be sure, unless John beats me to it.

Here is a Terra with the proper rack mount arms installed:

Notice how the top and bottom of the rack ears align with the top and bottom of the Terra, keeping it within the 2U space.

As Mike points out, the rack mount arms for the Strato are designed to centre the Strato within the 2U space of the rack. The arms can be mounted on a Terra however, the Terra will be pushed up higher and will intrude into the space of the rack unit above it as illustrated here:

So you can use the Strato arms (without the faceplate of course) as long as you aren't planning to mount anything immediately above it in your rack -- and you can live with the offset ruining the lines of your rack
